Founder and Partner


Tom Cates joined The Wellington Group in 1998 and became a Partner with the firm in 2002. He brings more than 42 years experience not only in the financial services industry but also in commercial and international banking. Tom earned his B.S. in Economics from Denison University and his M.B.A. in Finance at Indiana University. Tom is also a graduate of The College for Financial Planning in Denver. He is Series 6, 7, 63, and 65 securities licensed. He has life, health, and variable licenses in various states and is a Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP) and a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy®( CAP®).


Tom is an active member of The Christian Businessmen’s Committee of Noblesville, Kingdom Advisors, and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). Tom is also involved in several not-for-profit organizations, such as Angel of Hope in Noblesville and The Next Step Senior Resources Group.


Tom is married to his wife, Debie, and has one daughter, Julie (Dustin), and two grandchildren, Dakota and Owen. In his spare time, he loves to play guitar, mentor, teach, and exercise, along with an occasional golf game.
